Knox County sees eight more COVID-19 cases, CDC reports Thursday – Courier-Gazette & Camden Herald

Knox County saw eight additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday, Dec. 15.

And the most recent testing at Rockland’s wastewater treatment plant showed virus levels continue to be low through Dec. 8.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 7,771 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus (This does not include results from at-home tests), 122 have been admitted to hospitals, and 49 have died.

Statewide, an additional 244 cases were reported during the past day with no additional deaths reported statewide Dec. 15, keeping the number at 2,777.

The CDC reported that an additional eight people statewide were admitted to a hospital during the past day with the virus, bringing the total to 6,437 since the pandemic started.

The CDC reports 107 Mainers currently in the hospital with the virus. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 107 hospitalized, 18 are in critical care units and five on a ventilator. Thirty-eight critical care beds are available in Maine.

While COVID-19 cases remain law locally, influenza continues to pick up steam in Knox County. The Maine CDC issued its weekly influenza report on Dec. 13 and reported for the week ending Dec. 10, there had been 29 new cases with two hospitalizations in Knox County. That is more than the 22 for the week ending Dec. 3 and dramatically more than the four cases the previous week, and two the week before that, and none the week before that.
