Vaccine skeptics on social media are celebrating that Dr. Anthony Fauci recently tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) announced President Joe Biden‘s top medical advisor has tested positive for the coronavirus after Fauci was given a rapid test.
“He is fully vaccinated and has been boosted twice. He is currently experiencing mild symptoms. Dr. Fauci will isolate and continue to work from his home. He has not recently been in close contact with President Biden or other senior government officials,” NIAID wrote, writing he will follow safe COVID protocols.
While many are sending him well wishes for a speedy recovery, others are happy that he contracted the virus.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, “Breaking News: Anthony Fauci has COVID. He’s octuple vaccinated and quadruple masked, and yet the ‘rona still found a way. SCIENCE!”
“Dr. Fauci positive for COVID-19. So he either ignores his own protocols or they don’t work, wrote Jack Windsor.
“LMAO DR FAUCI GOT COVID GET OWNED PIG,” @MillerStream exclaimed.
@MuchmoreNick wrote, “MR 4 TIMES vaxed Dr FAUCI TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19. Proving yet again! The vax is WORTHLESS!”
@Wisone89 tweeted, “Finally he gets a taste of the medicine he researched and helped manufacture.”
Gerald Celente said, “What a f**king joke, America’s most highly anointed arrogant clown, the fully vaxxed Champion of America, Fraud Fauci, got COVID.”
“So Fauci has COVID. He had the vaccine and booster. It couldn’t happen to a better man. He is a fraud,” Randy Holcombe explained.
“In case anyone needs more proof against vaxxing, against masks, here it is: Dr. Anthony Fauci has COVID,” @Portia72307 tweeted.
“I have NO sympathy for this monster. May he reap what he has sown,” @1minutetomidnit said.
“Raise your hand if you’ve never masked or had a vaccine and have had Covid as many times or fewer than Dr. Anthony Fauci,” Scott Morefield wrote, alongside a laughing emoji.
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that could be mild or moderate and in most cases, does not require special treatment, per the World Health Organization. The elderly and those with certain underlying conditions like cardiovascular disease or diabetes, however, are vulnerable to a more serious effects of the disease. There have been over 85 million cases reported in the United States.
According to the CDC, COVID-19 can still be life-threatening to one’s health. Getting the vaccine can help the possible effects of COVID-19 be less severe and decrease the chances of hospitalization or even death. The CDC says no vaccines are 100 percent effective, and some will contract COVID-19 even if they are fully vaccinated. In the United States, roughly 222 million people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, per Our World in Data.
There are many conspiracy theories revolving around COVID-19 and the vaccine. One is that the government put a microchip inside the vaccine to track you.
“Physically, chips are not small enough that they could be inoculated with a needle. The COVID-19 vaccines are old-fashioned simple public health. Bad disease; good vaccine. Let’s get the vaccine in order to prevent the bad disease. It’s nothing more complicated than that,” Dr. William Schaffner told Healthline.
Another theory is that the vaccine will make you “magnetic.”
“There is nothing magnetic in the vaccine,” Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said, “”We’ve talked about what is in these vaccines, there’s really very little, there’s the instructions to teach your immune system how to fight off COVID and then there’s a little bit of a fat layer to help make sure that that’s protected. There’s a little bit of salt and sugar to make sure it’s at the right pH and it works with your body, and that is it.”
