HOUGHTON — State data Tuesday showed a new COVID-19 death in Baraga County along with 11 more confirmed virus positives in the previous week, while Houghton County had 36 more cases.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 302 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since June 21: 68 in Marquette County, 42 in Delta County, 39 in Gogebic County, 36 in Houghton County, 29 in Iron County, 18 in Dickinson County, 16 in Menominee County, 11 in Baraga and Chippewa counties, eight in Ontonagon and Mackinac counties, six in Luce County, five in Alger County, three in Keweenaw County and two in Schoolcraft County. The state recorded two virus-related deaths in Marquette and Chippewa counties and one each in Baraga and Luce counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 54,898 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 863 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 501 confirmed cases and 58 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 689 confirmed cases and 836 probable, 13 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 954 confirmed, 112 probable and 37 deaths, three probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,109 confirmed cases and 755 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Alger County, 1,113 confirmed, 712 probable and eight deaths, six probable; Mackinac County, 1,743 confirmed cases and 908 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,824 confirmed cases, 347 probable and 53 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,470 confirmed cases and 352 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 2,938 confirmed cases and 550 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,725 confirmed cases and 5,387 probable, and 88 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,141 confirmed cases, 1,770 probable and 61 deaths, 11 probable; Dickinson County, 5,237 confirmed cases and 2,529 probable, 91 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 7,165 confirmed cases, 1,153 probable, 87 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,233 confirmed cases and 2,305 probable, 134 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 13,056 confirmed cases, 3,361 probable and 127 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Tuesday had 14,353 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since June 21, or an average of about 2,050 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,606,431 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 174 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,918.
The state updates COVID-19 data once a week. Last week it switched to posting on Tuesdays rather than Wednesdays.
