COVID-19 infections rose sharply statewide but more modestly in Davidson County

- Confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose sharply last week in Tennessee, though only modestly in Davidson County
- COVID-related hospitalizations also rose
- The percentage of people getting tested who are positive for COVID remained fairly steady
Confirmed COVID-19 infections rose sharply statewide and modestly in Davidson County last week, newly released Department of Health data show.
As of Saturday, the seven-day average of cases in Tennessee was 4,013, compared to the prior week’s 2,606 average, the department reported. The Davidson County seven-day average was 209.1, slightly higher than last week’s 208.7 average.
Related hospitalizations rose modestly to 812, up from last week’s 780.

Tennessee held relatively steady in the percentage of people getting tested for COVID-19 who are positive for it.
Statewide, that percentage was 29.15% compared to last week’s 29.99%. Davidson County’s test-positivity rate inched up — 25% compared to 24.4% the week before.
State public health agencies have counted more than 2.27 million cases of COVID-19 in Tennessee since the start of the pandemic. Statewide, 27,318 people have died as a result of the novel coronavirus.
About 55.3% of Tennesseans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The national average is 67.4%.
