CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio on Thursday reported 16,091 new COVID-19 cases in the last week, the highest number since mid-September.

The report, because of Thanksgiving, included eight days rather than the normal seven, but the per-day average of 2,299 was still higher than at any time in the weekly reports since the state averaged 2,936 cases a day in reporting 20,552 on Sept. 15.

A week, ago, Ohio reported 9,424 cases for six days, an average of 1,346 a day.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Ohio hospitals has risen from 867 on Nov. 25 to 1,155 on Thursday. That’s the highest number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients since Sept. 14. The number was in the 700s in early October.

Total reported COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic were 40,558.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 has now reached 3,243,850.

A total of 7,534,093 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 67.9% of Ohioans age 5 and up.

Since the beginning of 2021, there have been 25,357 deaths among people reported as unvaccinated, and 1,413 among people reported to be fully vaccinated. And there have been 80,959 hospitalized Ohioans who were not fully vaccinated, and 6,028 fully vaccinated people hospitalized.

The state does not report for COVID-19 cases whether people were vaccinated.
