Post Politics Now: Forecast of severe weather forces Trump to reschedule rally with GOP gubernatorial hopeful in Nebraska – The Washington Post

Today, a forecast of severe weather in Nebraska forced former president Donald Trump to reschedule his rally with Republican gubernatorial hopeful Charles Herbster, a longtime political ally who has been accused of sexually assaulting several women. In a statement Friday afternoon, Trump said he will appear Sunday night. His appearance with Herbster underscores the risky play Trump is making by trying to be a kingmaker in GOP primaries. Herbster, who has denied the allegations, is only one of several Trump-endorsed candidates in close primaries on ballots next month.
In Washington, President Biden spoke by phone with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Migration, an issue Republicans are trying to elevate in the November midterms, was high on the agenda. Biden also met with inspectors general of federal agencies.

This just in: New York reschedules primaries for Aug. 23
New York was forced to reschedule some of its primaries for late August after the state’s Court of Appeals ruled this week that new district maps were unconstitutional.
A judge ordered that the state’s congressional and state Senate primaries be moved from their original date of June 28 to Aug. 23.
State Judge Patrick McAllister announced the new date, saying that the independent expert he’s tasked with redrawing the congressional maps will finish the job by May 20.
As our colleague Colby Itkowitz reported, the initial maps, drawn by a Democratic-led assembly, largely benefited the Democratic Party. The court called the map “substantively unconstitutional as drawn with impermissible partisan purpose.”
The state will still be allowed to hold gubernatorial and State Assembly primaries in June, but the legislature or Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) could delay those elections, too. Two primaries could prove costly for the state. As Bloomberg Government reported, the rescheduling could double the cost of the elections for taxpayers.
