As much as I try to avoid unnecessary political discussions in this News Portal, it is important to stay vocal when political interests affect life and death decision making. We are living on critical times when actions and resolutions should be solely focused on citizens’ well-being, and not crash on political barriers or individual agendas.
A couple of days ago my great friend, Viktor Bludov, pointed me to an article titled “Andrew Cuomo: Trading Lives for His Pride“. It immediately called my attention because almost every day we all see the New York State Governor very active on TV, eloquently speaking about the Coronavirus pandemic and demonstrating his deep concerns about the fate of his Newyorkers while facing this pandemic challenges.
It would be almost out of doubt that, currently, in the existing political scene, Mr. Cuomo appears as “the one” politician that is truly focused on what is needed by his constituents instead of what would benefit his political career.
I just want to be careful here because it should be beyond any questioning that Mr. Cuomo is doing an incredible job in NY. Undoubtedly he is! However, it doesn’t exempt him from making a few mistakes along the way. What I wasn’t expecting is that such a misdeed would have its roots in a self-serving position.
Here below the article from Mr. Bob Kingsley that brought this situation to the open when it was published at DRGO on April 9, 2020:
Andrew Cuomo: Trading Lives for His Pride
By Bob Kingsley
On March 23, 2020, Remington Arms Co. CEO Ken D’Arcy wrote a letter to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, offering Remington’s services in the effort to combat the Coronavirus pandemic. While Governor Cuomo was declaring Remington a “non-essential” business, causing the Ilion, NY plant to shutter its operations and lay off workers for at least a month, President Trump was refining his executive orders specifically to include the firearms industry as “essential, critical infrastructure.”
“ The Remington plant in Ilion now has approximately one million square feet of unused and available manufacturing space. We would be honored to donate our facility to the production of ventilators, surgical masks, hospital beds or any other products mission-critical to the war on corona virus. Ventilators are essential to winning this new kind of war and Remington stands ready to enlist in wartime production. . . Remington products have served in every U.S. military conflict for 200 years. And while the corona virus is a new type of war, we’re not sitting this one out. . . [W]e’re standing by ready, willing and able to support in any way we can. It would be an honor for our company to donate space for the manufacture of mission-critical products, such as the production of ventilators, surgical masks, hospital beds or any other products deemed necessary. ”
While Governor Cuomo is all over the media, literally begging for help every day, the letter from Remington has gone unanswered. More alarmingly, nary a peep from the mainstream media about the obvious question. Let me frame it for anyone in the media pool of Cuomo sycophants who might bring themselves to ask it:
“ Governor Cuomo, over two weeks ago, Ken D’Arcy, the CEO of Remington, the oldest firearms manufacturer in the country, headquartered in New York, offered to donate a million square feet of their manufacturing space and said, quote: ‘We’re standing ready, willing and able to support in any way we can.’ As of today, sir, you have failed even to respond to Remington, yet you’re continually begging for help while Remington is begging to help. Can you tell us why you have ignored their offer? ”
Here we are, 17 days out from D’Arcy’s letter and the media remains silent on this tragic absurdity. It is colluding with Cuomo in his bigotry that “people like that have no place in New York.”
If you had any doubt about the media and its anti-firearms agenda, this example should prove the depth of its antagonism. Fake news isn’t just purposeful misinformation. It is also failing to do the job of holding the powerful to account.
It is criminal to deny help for New Yorkers based on vitriolic, personal sentiment. But like too many rulers, Andrew Cuomo does first what promotes his political future, and last what is right for the people he was elected to serve.
This article was originally published at drgo.us and is reprinted here with permission.
I’ve decided to republish the article here because, beyond the fact it is politically opinionative, the Governor’s position to simply ignore such an important offer because of his unilateral agenda – or to preserve his political interests – is wrong, almost criminal. In the current scenario of a global pandemic, it should be all hands on deck, any help should be welcome, and any differences should be overlooked for the good of everyone else as it can truly make the difference between life or death.
When reaching out to NY Governor’s Office and offering them a chance to discuss the Governor position, well, let’s say I felt like Remington. Why? because I received no answer! It seems the Governor and his cabinet wants to keep this conversation on a low profile, until it disappears, having no real interest on engaging with any level of discussion about the matter.
On the other hand, Remington representative sent me a link for a video (below) in which Ken D’Arcy himself, the CEO of Remington Arms, speaks publicly about the NY situation and how Remington is ready to assist if welcomed to do so:
In a personal note, I used to live in NY and I love that State! My friend Viktor who sent me the article used to live there too. I was there when 9-11 happened, and I didn’t die in the Twin Towers because I was luckily delayed when trying to make it to the WTC Observation Tower. I saw that City collapse with the building, but I also saw that City rising up strong and united immediately after that.
A place like NY, full of history and loaded of amazing people, should never be a hostage of its leader’s reckless decision refusing to accept – in fact, not even responding to – a so generous offer of help. And “why“? Simply to protect his political agenda! No! Newyorkers deserve better than that, much better. Remington deserves better too. I don’t care if Remington manufactures weapons or baby toys, what I do care is that they are ready to use their plant to produce beds, respirators, medical essentials (anything that is utmost essential for the survival of the people of NY), and due to this situation they are simply doing NOTHING! Because of that, I refuse to ignore it and publicly disavowal Mr. Cuomo’s mediocre and regrettable “political move“.
I will be glad to publish an apology if anything changes and the Governor accepts Remington’s help. You all know how to reach me directly!
