The COVID-19 pandemic shrank the restaurant industry, and many still don’t have enough workers as more Marylanders return to dine in person.According to the National Restaurant Association’s new State of the Restaurant Industry report, many restaurant owners are looking to grow their business as conditions get closer to normal, but they face a big challenge.The report says 62% of restaurants surveyed report being understaffed in 2022 with one unemployed person for every two jobs — the lowest level on record.And, Maryland businesses are no exception. Mother’s North Grille in Timonium said business is definitely back up.”We have already hired some already, and we’re still looking for hiring more, but we have had issues of finding people to stay long-term because of COVID-19,” said Janiece Smith, manager of Mother’s North Grille.
