CLEVELAND, Ohio — The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio continued upward, increasing to 9,325 this week from 9,136 last week.

The state had several weeks starting mid-January when the case number fell under 9,000, but case numbers rose above that benchmark on Feb. 23. Ohio has been over 10,000 cases per week every week, except for brief dips, since the beginning of May.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Ohio hospitals stayed steady, going from 754 last week to 743 on Thursday. That number is still below a recent high of 1,423 on Dec. 29.

This week’s case total averages to about 1,332 cases per day over seven days.

Total reported COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic were 41,749.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 has now reached 3,392,320.

A total of 7,572,677 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 68.2% of Ohioans age 5 and up.

Since the beginning of 2021, there have been 26,639 deaths among people reported as unvaccinated, and 1,489 among people reported to be fully vaccinated. And there have been 87,285 hospitalized Ohioans who were not fully vaccinated, and 6,575 fully vaccinated people hospitalized.

The state does not report for COVID-19 cases whether people were vaccinated.

March 2 recap

* Total reported ICU admissions: 15,013, up 36.

* Total reported cases: 3,382,995, up 9,136.

* Total reported ICU admissions: 14,977, up 26.
